By Staff Reporter – Guinea-Bissau President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, says he plans a state visit to Zimbabwe following a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“As soon as possible, I am coming to visit Zimbabwe for a State Visit to open the cooperation between our two countries because we have a lot of things to change,” Embaló said after meeting Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the United Nations climate change conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Embaló highlighted the potential for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Guinea-Bissau and Zimbabwe.
Born in 1972, Embaló, a former military officer who served as Guinea-Bissau’s Prime Minister from 2016 to 2018, has been in office as President since 2020.
He shared a historical link with Mnangagwa, as both have ties to China, where they both trained.
This shared history also includes the late former Guinea-Bissau President Amílcar Cabral.
“I want to say something that is important. You know when he (Mnangagwa) was trained in China, before I was born, he trained with our leaders,” he remarked.
“He is an elder, a hero of the struggle of liberation. That is why I came to greet him, and now I am going to work.”-www.parliamentwatchzw.com
